District Goals 2011-12
Membership Goals: Each and every one of us was given a very special gift when a friend, colleague, relative and/or acquaintance approached us with the “ASK” to consider membership in Rotary International. There is no secret that we’re interested in growing membership for a countless number of reasons. The more members we have, the more good we can continue to do in our communities both locally and internationally. For the first time ever in the United States membership has declined. Even at this critical point in membership history, quality must not be overlooked. We need the right people with the same heartfelt attributes to continue creating change in the world one act of kindness at a time. We need to reach within our communities to attract business and professional individuals from all cultures, age groups, genders, former Rotary members and past Rotary alumni. Adding the opportunity of the Rotary eClub in our District just may bring former members back into Rotary and create new members through more accessible Rotary membership.
Public Image Goals: The incredibly resourceful tools and advantages of our new website continue to improve. Our Newsletter continues to evolve, and Rotarians are experiencing successful advertising in the newsletter and on our website. The District is consistently bringing together expertise to evaluate where we are, what we have, and how to make it better. We will continue to encourage clubs to write articles, advertise events, and showcase their work in the world. We are currently in the process of measuring the value of advertising by wrapping trailers and vehicles. We are generating contributions to the Bill and Melinda Gates “End Polio Now” challenge through the mobile campaign, “Text ‘POLIO’ to 90999 to donate $5.00.” We will encourage the family of Rotary to wear their pins and be prepared to explain “what is Rotary” in their own words.
Foundation Goals: President Kalyan Banerjee urges every Rotarian to give to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) even if it’s only $1.00 – just give something. Bill and Melinda Gates have given $355 million dollars to finish our efforts to eradicate Polio from the world. Their kindness and efforts have been rewarded by many other large foundations and individuals giving millions to TRF. We have set a goal of $200.00 per Rotarian for the year, that’s just $3.85 per week. Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) giving something, meeting our goal of $200.00 per Rotarian, will give our District and clubs the ability to do bigger and better local and international projects and really create change in the world for all humanity. I have a personal goal of creating 100 additional Paul Harris Society (PHS) members in 2011-12. An interesting fact for all of us to consider: 1.2% of all Rotarians worldwide are PHS members and account for 33% of all money contributed to the Annual Giving Fund (AGF). I look forward to reaching our goal. Val and I have made TRF our foundation of choice, not to say we don’t contribute to numerous other worthy charities and foundations just like everyone else, but we will forever be proud that we are major donors and bequest members to TRF and would love to see other Rotarians join us.
New Generations Goals: We continue to grow our Rotaract base by the creation of additional clubs and we hope to continue these efforts with new growth. Here again, much like attempting to bring former Rotarians back into the fold, former Rotaract may return to our District and new clubs are in the discussion. We have asked Interact and Rotaract leaders to be a part of our District Advisory Board and we will continue the 2010-11 leadership to build this relationship through our District events like our District Assembly and Conference. We will continue to encourage club participation in Youth Exchange, RYLA, Interact, Multiple District Interact Symposium (which District 5320 will run this year and could have financial gain which will benefit our youth programs).
Fellowship and Knowledge of Rotary: Having fun and encouraging all Rotarians to just see how much fun 2011-12 Rotary year can be for all our club members is a priority. How many friends, business associates, family members and people we meet can we include in our events, bring to our meetings, invite to our fireside chats, orientation gatherings, plant visits, and whenever and wherever we gather to explain the value of Rotary? We have the greatest gift in the world to give and the opportunity to show the difference we’re making by how we “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”.
