James Lorman
Rotary Club of Orange
Jim was associated with the land development industry for more than 44 years. The first 20 years were in various management positions with the State of New York DPW, geotechnical-consulting firms, the City of Newport Beach Building Department and served in the US Navy Seabees, which included a tour of Vietnam from 1966-1967.
Jim spent 24 years with The Irvine Company, retired in 2008, holding the position of Senior Vice President Operations. The responsibilities consisted of directing activities such as: entitlements, infrastructure design, cost analysis, entry permits, warranties, assessment districts’ reimbursements, consultant & contractor contracts, development of specifications and procedures, implementation of finance protocols and systems, resolution of claims, agency negotiations and construction operations. The development areas managed included: Irvine Spectrum, Westpark, Tustin Ranch, Newport Coast, Crystal Cove, Harbor View North, Harvard Square, Lower Peters Canyon, Newport Ridge, Northwood, Northpark, Oak Creek, Orchard Hills, Portola Springs, Quail Hill, Santiago Hills, Shady Canyon, Turtle Ridge and Stonegate.
Jim’s Rotary career began in1986 with the Orange Rotary Club. He was President in 2001-2002, on the Board of Directors multiple times, involved in a variety of committees such as; fundraising, scholarships, bylaws, operations development, membership, programs, Past Presidents council, community trust, Club’s Rotarian of the year in 2008-2009 and as the Foundation Chair lead the membership to be the first 200% Paul Harris Club in the District.
In addition, he was active in the District on Advisory Boards, as an Assistant Governor, committees for membership/retention, foundation dinner, conference, bylaws, operations, charitable trust and other support areas.
Cruz and Jim married in 1966 and have two children, Stephanie and Bryant. They have resided in the City of Orange since 1974. Cruz obtained an AA in Arts and Bachelor of Vocational Education….Jim obtained AA in Arts, AA in Science, Bachelor in Civil Engineering, MBA in Finance and is licensed in California as a Professional Engineer and Contractor.
He has also served the community on the Orange YMCA Board of Directors, Boy Scouts of America fund raisers, the United Way Building Industry Committee and Saint Joseph Hospital leadership council.
