Rotary Radio Spots Begin
In a move to broaden public understanding of the wide range of community service that Rotary clubs provide, District 5280 collaborated with District 5320 in Orange County, to launch a public service campaign on area broadcast outlets.
Under the direction of Senior AG Lew Bertrand, chair of the Communications and Public Relations Committee, four radio public service announcements were created. The spots will be aired in April on several radio stations in the LA and Orange County metropolitan areas. Click on any of the links below to hear that radio announcement:
Bellflower Rotary: “Painting a School Auditorium”
Crenshaw Watts Rotary: “Blessing of Boxes”,
& Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol Rotary: “Park & Play Area for Boys Town”
LA & Orange County District’s: “RYLA – Leadership Camps for High School Students”
Each district received a Public Relations Grant from Rotary International to mount the campaign. Articles for the radio spots were collected starting last fall, and, once written, sent to RI for approval.
“The LA market is the 2nd most expensive radio market only behind New York City,” said Bertrand. “We are working with a company that provides a needed service to the radio stations. They sell ads to the local radio market on Thursday of each week to stations that have unsold ad time for the following week. The stations bid at an online auction for ads offered by the company. The stations invited to bid have been identified by utilizing the survey we took last spring and the current Arbitron Radio Ratings. The invited stations listen to the offered ads prior to bidding. Last week every station invited to bid on our ads made bids. We were able to acquire 30 prime drive time 1 minute spots, as both of the winning stations provided huge discounts to win in our auction.”
This week’s auction resulted in Districts 5280 and 5320 having a total of 36 Rotary ads broadcast throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties the week beginning April 26. The 36 ads for the week are divided into 6 spots in the morning drive time and 30 in the afternoon drive time. Tune into station KRLA – 870AM during the morning drive time (6-10am) and during the afternoon drive time (3-7pm either KABC 790 AM featuring 10 spots or KRLA 870FM featuring 20 spots to hear Rotary’s public relations announcements. With the same budget as last week, this week’s auction acquired 6 additional spots, as the winning stations increased their discounts.
