The New Generation of Rotarians
Submitted by Mike Darnold, PDG
Here are a couple of kids that truly demonstrate NEW GENERATIONS. I stayed in touch via, text, emails and Facebook with them both during and after their trip to DC. They raised their own money and spent the entire time at the convention. I just grabbed some pics from their journey and put this page together.
Nate has been a ball of fire since he first got into ROTARACT/RYLA and ROTARY in general. I doubt if he has every known ………..slow! But Jessica is a totally different person.
Jessica was a shy girl at 16 in San Clemente High School on the Dance Team. Her Dance Coach told me she wanted Jessie to go to RYLA. So Jessica attended RYLA Camp 2002. The next year she was determined to return as ALUMNI and was selected hands down by the committee and her peers. Two years later having demonstrating extraodinary character and maturity, Jessica was asked to return as TA. If you ask Jessica she will freely share that she has enjoyed traveling and studying abroad in four countries, climbing mountains, biking through europe, and now attending RYLA Conventions on her own ……….. all because of RYLA and ROTARY. If you look at her resume you would swear she was 40 years old, but she is just 25.
And, you notice that I put ROTARIAN under their names. They are truly ROTARIANS in every sense of the word. Over 2,000 kids have gone through RYLA 5320. These are just two great examples of what we are doing as a district to make a difference in our world. We are truly making the world a better place by sharing goodwill and friendship by GROWING NEW ROTARIANS …………… THE NEW GENERATION OF ROTARY
