Governor’s Message

Johrita Solari
Johrita Solari -District Governor

Rotary District 5320 is made up of wonderful Rotarians who are caring people, giving from their hearts to help wherever they are needed. One of those Rotarians is you, joining with others at your club once a week to share fellowship and create projects to give to those that have less.

This Rotary year, let’s strive to share our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership. How do we do that? By looking into our own club and recognizing the positive spirit and the capacity that each one of us has to inspire our community. As Past District Governor Elizabeth Usovicz (D6040) said:

When a positive spirit comes alive in our clubs, we inspire our communities. And when our communities are inspired by our service and presence, we inspire new members, it’s a powerful cycle.

That cycle begins in your club!

Of course, our service and presence reach far beyond our own communities, as we continue the fight to End Polio Now. Last January, I was thrilled to hear that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation had increased their donation to The Rotary Foundation for this cause. Telling everyone in the office along the way, I sought out my 30-year-old assistant Kara, who was helping me get ready for my year of service as Governor. I took Kara into my office and shared the wonderful news, telling her of all the good things that will be done to end the dreaded disease of Polio worldwide! Kara was very excited as she said: “Johrita that is awesome, 355 Million Dollars to End Polio! Wow! But you know I have been meaning to ask you, just what is polio?”

Walt Disney said “If you can dream it, you can do it.” 25 years ago our Rotary Foundation had a dream and you, as Rotarians, are doing it. Twenty five years from now, every 30-year-old may be able ask, “just what is polio?”

Past Rotary Foundation Chair, Bhichai Rattakul said:

I think the Foundation is one of Rotary’s most successful and significant accomplishments. If we had achieved nothing else — and we have achieved many other things — the Foundation would have justified our existence.

Won’t you join me this year to support your Foundation?

Finally, I share with you a quote from our International President Ray Klinginsmith:

Yes, we have changed the world, and will continue to change it, in a positive way! Can we do it even better in these financially troubled times? Yes, we can do it! Yes, we will do it — together! The formula is simple. For us to succeed next year, all we need to do is to focus our best efforts on encouraging our clubs and districts to do what Rotarians are passionate about, and what Rotarians are the best in the world at doing:
